For accounting and bookkeeping firms

Your clients sign their T183 without a trip to the office.

The CRA accepts an electronic signature on the T183 and the T183CORP. Send the form when the return is ready. Your client signs it in their browser, and it comes back to you with the date and time it was signed. Maple eSign is Canadian-owned and hosted in Canada. It’s free to use, and you can sign up online, for yourself or your team.

Couples filing

Each spouse signs their own T183, one after the other.

Marcus and Joy each get their form at their own email address. Joy’s is sent as soon as Marcus has signed. Each signature comes back with the date and time it was made, and the CRA accepts a date and time stamp filled in by software.

Set up each form once and send it to every client.

Save your engagement letter and the T183, T183CORP and T183TRUST as templates. The fields stay where you put them, and only the client and the tax year change.

The record

Every finished agreement comes with proof.

When everyone has signed, Maple eSign seals the PDF with a Certificate of Completion and keeps a tamper-evident history of the signing.

What the CRA says

The CRA accepts e-signed T183s if you meet its conditions.

We read the CRA’s page on electronic signatures on October 26, 2026. It lists the T183, T183CORP and T183TRUST among the forms it accepts with an electronic signature. You still need to confirm who your client is, and you keep the Certificate of Completion with the signed form. The CRA updates this page, so check it before tax season.

Canada Revenue AgencyUsing electronic signatures

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) accepts an electronic signature on the following forms:

T183, Information Return for Electronic Filing of an Individual’s Income Tax and Benefit Return

T183CORP, Information Return for Corporations Filing Electronically

T183TRUST, Information Return for the Electronic Filing of a Trust Return

In order for the CRA to accept the use of electronic signatures between third parties for these forms, it is expected that identity verification has been performed by the party receiving the signed form.

As always, it is the taxpayer’s choice whether they would like to sign the form traditionally or apply an electronic signature.
